About This Place

Chez Leveque is a charming French restaurant and bistro nestled in the heart of Outremont on Avenue Laurier, offering an authentic taste of France with a distinctly Montreal flair. This beloved local gem masterfully blends traditional French culinary techniques with a warm, inviting atmosphere that transports you straight to a cozy Parisian bistro.

At Chez Leveque, every dish is a celebration of rich flavors and careful craftsmanship. Start your meal with standout entrées such as the Feuilleté d’escargots à la chablisienne, where tender escargots and mushrooms are bathed in a delicate Chablis sauce and baked to golden perfection. The Moules Farcies Provençales serve up plump mussels stuffed with a fragrant mix of garlic, buttery tomato, and anise, perfectly browned under the salamander. For a taste of classic French comfort, the Mousse de foie de volaille sur brioche, served with house-made onion jam and fresh brioche, gently awakens the palate with its silky richness.

Main courses at Chez Leveque continue to impress with classics like the deeply satisfying Bœuf bourguignon, slow-cooked to tender perfection, or the elegant Ris de Veau, an indulgent treat for those seeking refined flavors. Highlights such as the Beef Tartare and the delicately prepared Salmon Tartare showcase the kitchen’s commitment to fresh, vibrant ingredients. And dessert lovers will delight in the decadent Chocolate Temptation with Tarragon Ice Cream or the intoxicating Baba au Rhum, a perfect sweet finale.

The carefully curated menu also offers hearty, comforting dishes for take-home enjoyment like the Cuisse de canard aux olives and Osso Bucco à la milanaise, ideal for diners looking to savor Chez Leveque’s flavors in their own kitchen.

Beyond the food, the dining experience at Chez Leveque is characterized by attentive and genuine service. Many guests have remarked on the staff’s warm hospitality — a perfect example being when a server thoughtfully offered a taste of the beef tartare before the full dish arrived, ensuring it met the diner’s expectations. The ambiance is intimate yet lively, featuring both elegant indoor seating and charming outdoor options, making it a delightful spot for everything from casual lunches to memorable dinners.

Frequent patrons appreciate the sense of tradition and authenticity that reverberates throughout the restaurant. We came here the first day we arrived in Montreal, the staffs were very friendly and welcoming. The beef tartare was amazing, they let me try one scoop before serving the actual dish just to make sure I liked it, which is very caring. It was a good experience!

Cannot fault it. Great service and great food, great table and it is actually a good deal considering the high level. I had the snails and for the main I was not disapointed with a good duck tourtière! For dessert, we had crèpe Suzette flambée, this has to be one of the only restaurants that still do those classics!  Tissue napkins, good cutlery, and glassware. The reason why I do rate it 4 is the martini glass was chipped and the credit card was not simple. The waiter managed to make the contactless option work; I just could not remember the NIP of that credit card. It was a bit of an embarrassment. I have not been there in 30 years, and I do definitely recommend it and looking forward to go back!

I had dinner here on a Sunday night. There is a special Table d’Hôte from Sundays to Wednesdays for 32$. Service was top-notch. The food was delicious.

Ordered the steak and fries and the daily fish. Expect service like if you are eating in France. Sometimes amazing, at other times expect a sprinkle of attitude. I'm ok with that since the food is reasonable priced and delicious. And the French bread is excellent- crispy exteriors and fluffy on the inside.

Cute French bistro in Outremont on rue Laurier. Has both indoor and outdoor dining. Food is great and there’s also a kids option for those under 14. Salmon served in a lemon sauce was phenomenal, loved the gazpacho, which was fresh, a dash of heat from the fresh pepper that was offered at the table. Perfect for a warm summer evening. Service is impeccable, friendly, attentive, and patient. We dined outside, the traffic is minimal on a Thursday night with a pleasant breeze which made dining al fresco a delight. Atmosphere was more intimate and quieter than Leméac across the street that was much more lively.

It feels like you are in Paris with excellent service, food execution and European atmosphere. Both Fish had crispy skin and was flaky French baguettes crispy crust amd soft like cotton candy on the inside. They have more famous dishes if you are more adventurous, just google them before going to the restaurant
